For as long as I can remember I have always wanted and strived for being an artist who was able to make an individual feel something positive in a painting or drawing. Robert Francis Kennedy once said "Some men see things as they are and ask, 'Why?' I dream things that never were and ask, 'Why not?' " and with that I find my motivation. Having been creating art since a young child, I nearly lost my will to produce pieces in junior high after receiving a fairly negative feedback to a piece I had done. It wasn't until an art teacher in high school talked with me that I was able to make a comeback with the desire to prove all those that I had met along the path who said I would never make anything of myself in the art world that they were wrong. In college I actually preferred working with pencils and color pencils, having found that watercolors were uncertain and unforgiving. It wasn't until after graduation and feeling at a loss did I pick up the paintbrush once more, going feet first into that world of uncertainty. Constantly pushing myself and challenging what I could or couldn't do, I embraced watercolors to create the pieces people see today. |
