I have always been most fascinated by the way light and shadow in the physical world can inspire and create the abstraction of feelings which populate and constitute our inner realities. My process is to interpret and use this physical light so that the physical experience is enhanced by the emotional world in which we actually live our lives. I hope to provide the viewer with an experience not provided by the fleeting quality of nature. In addition, I have discovered that, as Picasso once said, God is in the details; I interpret this to mean that the details which define an object are key to its essence; therefore, detail for its own sake is meaningless, and one of the challenges I face as an artist is to capture the essence without becoming a slave to detail. I do not limit my subject matter, but prefer to convey this magic wherever and whenever I see it. |
