Artist Statement

It’s always the light that captures me and hopefully I capture it for you. I try to capture the magical light and spirit of what I’m painting.  I work from nature; photos I take; intuition; and meditations.  Sometimes my watercolors have hidden things in them.  My preferred medium is the one I’m doing at the time.  I enjoy watercolor, oil, and silver smithing jewelry.  Like most women I love jewelry; and like most artists you can’t keep me in one medium.

I was introduced to art at a very early age, as both my parents loved art.  At the age of 11, I started taking impressionistic oil painting lessons.  I received an AA in Fine Art in 1973 at American River College.  I started smithing Sterling Silver jewelry in 1974; I recently started making filigree jewelry inspired by the wrought iron in France. I enjoy making the fine delicate designs and have designed a picture pendant to incorporate my painting with my jewelry or any other photo.  I make custom filigree designs.

In 1976 I had a silver smithing/gift shop in Folsom on Sutter Street and closed the shop after a year due to a divorce.  I worked in the corporate community until 2001. I then went back to refresh my skills after a lack of use for so many years.  I returned to take several more classes from the renowned artist and gifted teacher Gary Pruner before he retired. I have been painting professionally ever since. In 2003 Dr. Doreen Virtue Published one of my paintings in her “Magical Mermaid and Dolphins” Cards which have been distributed World Wide.  I have had several of my paintings published in “Guide to the Arts magazine” and on the cover of” Perspective Magazine” in the “Sacramento bee” and “Sacramento Magazine”.  In 2003 I was part of the Mural team in Elk Grove that painted the Pediatrics ward in the Methodist Hospital in Elk Grove, CA.  In 2004 The City of Elk Grove purchased one of my paintings for the City Hall.  In 2003 and 2004 I served as show chair in W.A.S.H. (Watercolor Artist of Sacramento Horizons).   In 2005 I helped with the CWA membership show at the State Capitol. I have been a member of the Elk Grove Artists, WASH and NCA (Northern California Artists) for several years. My husband and I have been volunteer docents at the California State Fair Fine Art Exhibit for many years.  In 2010 I was asked to demo watercolor in the Fine Arts Exhibit in the State fair.  In 2004 my supportive husband (who refers to himself as the road crew) and I started selling at Fine Art Festivals as much as we can.  My jewelry and a few of my paintings are in Blue Moon Gallery.  I’ve taken several workshops from various artists and continue to explore different techniques to keep it fun and interesting.  I’m now teaching watercolor in the Blue Moon Gallery on Thursday evenings and will be giving workshops also. If you are interested in taking lessons give me a call 916-296-0485 or email patti@patriciawilliamsart.com.
